Tooth Implant

Missing a tooth? Fill in the voids to complete the link. This is perhaps what all you want for Christmas – a pretty, complete smile – that can be done by a tooth implant.

A tooth implant is a prosthetic tooth that replaces a missing one. Missing teeth could either be extracted due to several reasons – congenital, decay or gum disease that could lead to loosening. An implant would best serve its purpose for a space that has been vacated by a tooth or two.

Unlike removable dentures, tooth implants are fixed prostheses, which eliminate several concerns. One is loosening; another is aesthetics. Badly constructed dentures are attention grabbing, most especially if color and form do not match the remaining natural adjacent teeth. Fixed prosthetic appliances are less likely to loosen as these are screwed.

With teeth implants, these become less of a possibility. However, the procedure is invasive as it requires surgery. An implant is made up of high grade titanium that is drilled into the bone. The outer end has a screw mechanism to accommodate the porcelain tooth. The tooth is fabricated separately in the laboratory by a qualified dental technician. Once done, it is screwed into the titanium screw to properly secure the prosthesis.

The strength of titanium and its compatibility with body tissues are the reasons why it has been the metal of choice for tooth implants. They are able to withstand the forces of chewing and cases of tissue rejection are not as many. However, the price is a bit steep. If you are considering this as a treatment option, then better have a serious sit down talk with your dentist or an oral surgeon.

Teeth implants can be your substitutes to removable dentures, especially if the space is not that extensive. They are good alternatives for spaces in the front as it greatly affects appearance and personality. A space left empty would gradually deplete one’s confidence because smiling suddenly became a humiliating experience.

A void between teeth is not an issue to be brushed off. It’s not a matter of vanity but hygiene. Missing teeth, especially if they are not seen (such as the molars) are often taken for granted. There are people who feel that it’s just okay, only to face the consequences later on. Others do not welcome the idea of wearing removable dentures because of how it makes them look or feel.

Maintaining proper oral hygiene is just as essential as maintaining your skin. Never take matters sitting down as the repercussions may not seem so good. A tooth implant might just save you a job interview, let alone a promising career. This is not to discriminate but to encourage. It’s a sad but proven fact that appearance is a great factor in landing jobs and blending in with society.

Teeth implants are indeed pricier than the rest of the prosthetic options. However, the value becomes less important if it would mean regaining one’s confidence and being able to smile again. Smiling is a gift. So if you happen to have this dental problem, allow yourself to have that gift. Consider a tooth implant to fill in the voids. This just might keep you smiling forever.
