Although in most part of the US, getting formal education to be a dental assistant isn’t necessary, and most of the time, a dentist recommendation or on the job training is optional to get accepted as a dental assistant. You can also consider taking the national certification exam done by Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). If you pass this exam, then you are automatically accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation from American Dental Association (ADA). Ask your local state health office if they require more accreditations other than the ones mentioned above.
